FAQ – Cuddle Therapy Training

Our Cuddle Therapy Training in Berlin teaches you how to offer mindful touch in a professional and ethical way.
Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about the training program, certification, costs, prerequisites, and career opportunities as a cuddle therapist.

The Foundations of Cuddle Therapy Training

To become a cuddle therapist, you need a comprehensive cuddle therapy training that teaches you how to offer mindful touch professionally, ethically, and safely. Cuddle therapy is not only about touch itself, but also about navigating closeness, boundaries, consent, and emotional safety with awareness and care.

Cuddle therapy is unlike most professions. It is a touch-based, attachment-oriented practice that invites you to embody authentic human connection in direct contact with others. When this connection is welcomed and reciprocated, genuine intimacy can emerge.

While this may sound simple, it requires much more than a desire to touch people. As a cuddle therapist, you are entrusted with creating a safe space where clients can express their needs, communicate their boundaries, and sometimes reveal deep vulnerability. Tears and strong emotions are not uncommon. This space is precious and sensitive, which is why we believe it should not be offered without thorough training.

In our Cuddle Therapy Training in Berlin, we place special emphasis on professional role awareness, emotional safety, and developing a clear inner orientation. Very short programs or exclusively online trainings often do not provide enough time and space to cultivate and embody these essential skills. Because in the end, becoming a cuddle therapist is not only about understanding these principles intellectually, but about truly being able to live and practice them.

A Cuddle Therapy Training teaches you how to offer mindful touch professionally, ethically, and within a safe framework. You learn how to accompany closeness, intimacy, and emotional processes with awareness while supporting both yourself and others.

Cuddle therapy combines mindful touch, emotional openness, and authentic human connection. It engages people on many levels and creates a space where meaningful encounters can unfold. As a cuddle therapist, you learn to respond not only to a person’s body, but also to their emotions, needs, and often their most vulnerable parts. Touch becomes a direct and immediate language.

Our holistic Cuddle Therapy Training in Berlin prepares you for exactly this. It combines knowledge, personal experience, and hands-on practice, with a strong emphasis on professionalism, quality, and responsibility.

And at the same time, once you have truly embodied these skills, the work becomes simple again. People come to you, place their trust in your hands, and together you experience closeness, connection, and genuine human contact.

In our Cuddle Therapy Training in Berlin, you will learn practical skills to offer mindful touch professionally and to guide people safely into experiences of closeness and connection. This includes touch practices, communication, self-awareness, and maintaining clear boundaries.

The emphasis of the training is on hands-on experience. You will cultivate presence and mindfulness, refine your body awareness, and learn to remain calm, grounded, and clear when emotions arise in sessions. At the same time, you will receive comprehensive learning materials, including an in-depth manual, a booklet with cuddle positions, and instructional videos that support your learning beyond the training itself.

To accompany people holistically, a variety of competencies are needed. Our Cuddle Therapy Training is therefore built around four core pillars:

The Four Pillars of the Training

Cuddle Therapy Theory
Foundations of touch and cuddling, the structure and guidelines of a cuddle therapy session, the effects and learning opportunities of cuddle therapy, and the diverse needs of clients.

The Role of a Cuddle Therapist
Professional ethics, presence, self-awareness, communication, and working skillfully with boundaries, safety, and responsibility.

Touch Techniques and Cuddle Positions
Different qualities and intentions of touch, full-body contact, cuddle positions, and clear dos and don’ts.

The Wheel of Consent – Theory and Practice
Understanding the four quadrants of the Wheel and learning how to distinguish and facilitate giving and receiving consciously.

Du kennst das Wheel noch gar nicht? Hier ist ein Blogrtikel zum Wheel of Consent: „Das Wheel of Consent – Grundpfeiler unserer Arbeit“

The Cuddle Therapy Training in Berlin combines theory and practice, with a strong emphasis on hands-on learning. You will not only gain a solid theoretical foundation, but also develop the skills, confidence, and professional mindset needed to work with touch and human connection in a conscious and responsible way.

Theory is an important part of the training. It helps you understand the work more deeply, communicate professionally about cuddle therapy, and navigate different situations with clarity and care. However, our focus is clearly on practical experience.

This is not a purely online training. While parts of the program are completed through self-study—including on-demand videos and guided practice sessions—you are supported throughout the process. During the in-person training days, you practice extensively, receive feedback, and have plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Working within a group also allows you to practice with different people and gain a wide range of experiences.

We believe that understanding the material is only the first step. Our goal is for you to embody what you learn. Step by step, you grow into your role as a cuddle therapist and develop confidence in working with touch, boundaries, and clients—and above all, that requires practice.

Professional Cuddle Therapy Training is important because working with touch, closeness, and intimacy requires a high level of responsibility. You learn how to accompany people professionally, safely, and consciously—something that goes far beyond simply being good at touch.

Cuddle therapy is much more than offering pleasant touch. As a cuddle therapist, you enter a sensitive space where people reveal their needs, boundaries, and often their vulnerabilities. The demands placed on you are significant, and our training is designed to prepare you for them.

During the training, you will learn to:

  • Place the client and their needs at the center of the session, cultivating empathy, compassion, and the ability to set aside your own needs.
  • Meet people openly and without judgment, regardless of your personal preferences.
  • Communicate clearly—both verbally and nonverbally—so that clients feel safe and can truly relax.
  • Develop greater body awareness and embodied sensitivity, allowing you to recognize subtle signals and respond appropriately.
  • Refine the quality of your touch, making it more attuned, nuanced, and intentional.
  • Explore your own relationship with closeness, intimacy, attachment, and connection.

At the same time, you do not have to be completely healed or have everything figured out. What matters is a willingness to look honestly at yourself and take responsibility for your own growth. Many of these processes begin during the training and continue long afterwards. That is why we believe becoming a cuddle therapist requires time, guidance, and a solid framework rather than a quick introduction without proper preparation.

The Cuddle Therapy Training in Berlin consists of five modules that combine theory, hands-on practice, and self-study. The emphasis is clearly on practical experience so that you can develop confidence in working directly with people.

Module I | Self-Study Preparation

You receive our comprehensive training manual and access to on-demand videos covering the essential theoretical foundations. A live group call prepares you for the in-person modules and provides space for questions.

Module II | In-Person Training Weekend

During the first training weekend, you begin integrating theory and practice. You explore mindful touch, learn a clothed full-body massage inspired by Shiatsu, and gain your first profound experiences in direct human connection. A cuddle party gives you the opportunity to apply what you have learned in a real-life setting.

Module III | Integration Through Self-Study

You deepen and integrate your experiences through additional on-demand videos and practical exercises that strengthen body awareness and prepare you for working with the Wheel of Consent.

Module IV | Advanced In-Person Training

You work intensively with the Wheel of Consent, refine your skills, and practice facilitating cuddle therapy sessions. Once again, you gain extensive hands-on experience within a safe and supportive environment.

Module V | Practicum and Supervision

You conduct your own cuddle sessions with practice clients and document your experiences. During a supervision session, you receive feedback and have the opportunity to clarify remaining questions. Upon successful completion of all requirements, you receive your certificate.

Ongoing Support

Throughout the entire Cuddle Therapy Training, you are accompanied by experienced trainers and can ask questions at any time. Even after graduation, supervision and support remain available as you continue your journey as a cuddle therapist.

Over time, some participants may also wish to receive individual support. At the same time, you can continue accompanying people over a longer period and offer further experiences within your own events and spaces.

Discount for Colleagues

If two people register together and plan to work together or build a cuddle therapy practice, we offer a discount of €200 per person. The €200 discount applies when both trainings are booked together at the time of registration.

Combining both trainings not only broadens your professional skills but can also support you in building your own practice.

Prior experience in bodywork or therapy is not required for the Cuddle Therapy Training. Experience in one-on-one work or a background as a massage therapist or bodyworker can be helpful, but it is not a prerequisite.

More important than previous experience are certain personal qualities and attitudes:

  • Being at least 18 years old
  • Professionalism and reliability
  • Openness, curiosity and a genuine interest in people
  • Patience and the ability to meet people where they are
  • An awareness of the responsibility that comes with this work
  • A willingness to follow the ethical principles and values of KuschelRaum

Recommendations

  • Attending Cuddle Parties beforehand to experience touch and connection with unfamiliar people yourself
  • Receiving sessions from cuddle therapists, preferably within the KuschelRaum network
  • Completing a first aid course (or refresher course) to feel prepared to respond appropriately in an emergency

Yes, the Cuddle Therapy Training is also suitable for career changers. You do not need a specific professional background, but rather an interest in people, touch and personal growth.

People from many different backgrounds come together in our trainings. Some work in business, administration or other professional fields and are looking to create a second source of income, while others come from body-oriented or therapeutic disciplines such as yoga, massage or coaching and wish to expand their existing offerings.

Cuddle Therapy is particularly well suited as a part-time profession that can gradually grow according to your interests and aspirations. Some of our graduates eventually work full-time in this field, while many successfully integrate it into their existing professional lives as a meaningful second career.

Yes, you can participate in the Cuddle Therapy Training even if you have experienced trauma yourself, provided that you bring a certain degree of stability and a willingness to take responsibility for your own wellbeing.

Part of the training involves exploring your own relationship to touch, closeness and boundaries. You will learn tools and practices that can help you approach these topics gently and take good care of yourself along the way. At the same time, we believe that you do not need to be completely „healed“ to begin. What matters most is a certain level of stability and a willingness to care for yourself and seek support when needed. For many participants, the training also becomes a valuable personal journey.

Emotional themes may arise during the training and in professional practice. Cuddle Therapy is not trauma therapy, but experiences of touch and connection can sometimes touch deeper processes. This is why a conscious and responsible approach is so important. Having experienced trauma yourself can also become a strength, as it may help you understand others on a profound level.

We are happy to explore together what feels right for you and support you in finding your own path.

Career Opportunities After the Cuddle Therapy Training

Yes, after completing the training, you can work as a cuddle therapist. Our graduates generally feel well prepared and motivated to start offering sessions soon after finishing the program.

One of the greatest strengths of our training is the opportunity to gain experience. This kind of work cannot be learned quickly – it requires practice, repetition and real-life encounters. Alongside a solid theoretical foundation, our training places a strong emphasis on hands-on experience. You will work with several practice clients and receive direct feedback from Angeline and Rubem, helping you build confidence and develop your own style. Our comprehensive manual also serves as a valuable reference long after the training has ended.

Another important part of the program is preparing you for a professional start. We share practical guidance on topics ranging from setting up your space to organizational and tax-related matters.

And if you need additional support, you are always welcome to book supervision sessions with Angeline or Rubem and continue receiving guidance on your path as a cuddle therapist.

Yes, it is possible to earn money as a cuddle therapist. Many people offer cuddle therapy as a paid service and shape their practice according to their own interests, availability and capacity.

You set your own rates. Many cuddle therapists charge around €80–90 per hour and adjust their prices over time depending on demand, experience and workload.

For some, cuddle therapy is an additional source of income that they offer in the evenings or on weekends. Others gradually transition into working as cuddle therapists full-time, often combining it with complementary modalities such as massage, coaching or other forms of body-oriented support.

It is also possible to offer cuddle therapy on a voluntary basis. Some people, often retirees, choose to share their time and experience within their communities or in self-organized settings.

What you earn ultimately depends on many factors, including your visibility, the services you offer and how actively you wish to work.

The income of a cuddle therapist varies depending on the services offered, demand and the number of sessions provided. Many cuddle therapists charge around €80–90 per hour and shape their income according to their own preferences and availability.

How much you actually earn depends on factors such as the number of sessions you offer, your visibility and whether you work as a cuddle therapist part-time or full-time. For example, if you offer 2–3 sessions per day on four days per week, with sessions lasting 60–120 minutes and charging around €90 per hour, this can result in a gross monthly income of approximately €2,800–6,200.

Some people use cuddle therapy as an additional source of income, while others gradually build it into a full-time self-employed practice.

Cuddle Therapy is not a state-recognized profession. It is still a relatively young field that, like many areas of bodywork and coaching, is learned outside of traditional educational pathways.

This makes comprehensive training all the more important. It provides not only the necessary knowledge and practical skills, but also a certificate that can help establish credibility and professionalism, while giving you the confidence to begin working in this field.

In our view, Cuddle Therapy should not be offered without thorough training. The quality of your presence, your professional attitude and your ability to create and hold a safe space are essential to practicing this work responsibly.

After completing the Cuddle Therapy Training, you can start at your own pace. Many graduates begin part-time, gain their first experiences and gradually develop more confidence and clarity. You can work independently or choose to become part of our network and benefit from exchange, visibility and ongoing support.

Formally, you simply register your self-employed activity with the tax authorities – everything else develops naturally through practice.

How you work is entirely up to you. Some people rent therapy rooms by the hour, while others create a space in their own home. Some even work in unique settings such as a tiny house or camper van. There are many ways to create an environment that feels authentic and aligned with your work.

Most importantly, just begin, gather experience and allow yourself to discover your own path.

Many cuddle therapists find their first clients through their existing network, personal connections or by making themselves visible, for example through social media, local communities or community notice boards. Over time, recommendations often become an important source of new clients.

If you become part of the KuschelRaum network, you can benefit from additional visibility through our website and community. KuschelRaum is currently one of the leading platforms for Cuddle Therapy in Germany and is frequently ranked among the top Google search results, bringing additional reach to our network members.

To support you in getting started, we provide a customizable flyer that you can share or leave in suitable places, such as doctors‘ offices, psychotherapy practices, yoga studios or community centers. Many professionals are open to collaborations and may recommend services that complement their own work.

Depending on where you live, it can also be helpful to introduce yourself in local groups and communities that are interested in topics such as touch, embodiment, wellbeing and personal growth.

After completing your training with KuschelRaum, you have the opportunity to become part of our network. Membership is optional, and you are always free to work independently.

The KuschelRaum network exclusively features cuddle therapists and cuddle professionals trained by us. Through our platform, you can make your services visible to people actively looking for Cuddle Therapy or professional cuddle services.

One of the greatest advantages of joining the network is that you do not have to work alone. You become part of a community of colleagues who exchange experiences, ask questions, support one another and continue growing together. A protected internal forum is available for this purpose.

At the same time, you remain fully independent. You decide how you work, what services you offer and how much you charge. All income from your sessions remains entirely yours.

Visibility and Support

Through the KuschelRaum website, you benefit from the trust, visibility and reach we have built over the years. Upon joining, we can create an English-language profile page for you from the outset, helping international clients find and contact you. You may also use the KuschelRaum logo and do not need to build your own website.

Community

The network brings together people who wish to offer and share mindful touch. Collegial exchange, mutual support and ongoing professional development are central aspects of being part of KuschelRaum.

Guidelines

As a member of the network, you agree to work in accordance with the values, ethics and guidelines of KuschelRaum and to represent them in your professional practice.

Membership Fees
€20 per month (if you offer Cuddle Therapy or Cuddle Parties)
€30 per month (if you offer both)

(plus VAT where applicable)

Safety, Boundaries and Ethics

Yes, Cuddle Therapy can be a professional and trustworthy service when it is offered within a clear framework and supported by comprehensive training. At KuschelRaum, we work with defined standards, clear guidelines and a conscious distinction from sexual services.

Cuddle Therapy takes place in a non-sexual context. It is based on mindful, non-goal-oriented touch that can foster a sense of belonging, safety and being accepted just as one is.

At the same time, it is important to know that this is still a relatively young profession. As a result, some people offer cuddle sessions without proper training or professional standards. This makes it even more important to look for experience, professionalism and a safe setting.

To help create a safe space, KuschelRaum follows clear guidelines:

  • Sessions take place fully clothed – nudity is excluded
  • Sexual touch or sexual advances are not permitted
  • Boundaries are respected and communicated clearly at all times
  • Every first session begins with a conversation and a mutual agreement
  • Both participants must be sober (no alcohol or drugs)
  • Hygiene and respectful interaction are considered essential

Within this framework, clients are free to express their needs and wishes, whether they are looking for quiet, conversation, closeness or more distance. You should never go beyond your own boundaries either, which is an important part of the Cuddle Therapy Training.

Cuddle Therapy is a professional service built on trust, clarity and responsibility – and that is what makes it a credible and meaningful form of support.

A safe space is the foundation of our training and is clearly introduced and practiced from the very beginning. You learn how to offer touch consciously, mindfully and responsibly.

A particular emphasis is placed on clear communication. You practice talking openly about wishes, boundaries and consent, and learn how to put these conversations into practice in direct interaction. These skills are not only taught in theory but are continuously applied throughout the training. You receive feedback, can ask questions and gradually develop confidence in working with touch.

At the same time, the training follows clear and binding guidelines. The fundamental principles of Cuddle Therapy—such as no nudity, no sexual touch and a respectful, professional attitude toward one another—naturally also apply within the training itself.

The trainers closely accompany the entire process and are always available for support. This creates a protected learning environment where you can experiment, gain experience and gradually develop trust in yourself and your own perception.

Respecting personal boundaries is a central part of the Cuddle Therapy Training. You learn how to recognize your own boundaries, take them seriously and communicate them clearly.

We distinguish between professional boundaries and personal boundaries:

Professional boundaries are clearly defined and non-negotiable. They include the basic principles of Cuddle Therapy, such as no nudity, no sexual touch and maintaining a respectful, professional setting. These boundaries always apply and help create safety for everyone involved.

Personal boundaries are individual and can change over time. For example, you decide how much closeness feels right for you or whether and how you want to allow certain forms of touch, such as touch on the face. These boundaries may evolve throughout the training—not through pressure, but through experience, self-awareness and greater clarity.

An important part of the learning process is developing the ability to distinguish between the two and navigate them with confidence. Cuddle Therapy can only be practiced responsibly when you honor your own boundaries and do not override them. This process takes time and space, both of which are intentionally built into the training.

No, Cuddle Therapy is not sexual. It takes place within a clearly defined, non-sexual framework.

This is precisely what makes it unique. Cuddle Therapy creates a space for mindful, non-goal-oriented touch – without expectations, performance or sexual intention. For many people, this is a rare and deeply meaningful experience.

To help keep this space safe, there are clear guidelines:

  • Sessions take place fully clothed
  • Sexual touch or sexual advances are not permitted
  • Boundaries are respected and communicated clearly at all times

Cuddle Therapy can foster a sense of closeness, connection and relaxation. For many people, simply experiencing touch without having to give anything in return can be profoundly nourishing.

If you would like to learn more, we invite you to read our blog article The Fundamental Human Need for Connection and Touch.

What Makes Our Cuddle Therapy Training Different?

Our Cuddle Therapy Training follows a holistic approach. You do not simply learn techniques for touch, but develop the ability to accompany people mindfully and create a safe, clear space for closeness and connection.

Cuddle Therapy is more than just cuddling. Mindful touch can initiate emotional processes and foster a deep sense of connection. That is why the training focuses not only on how to work, but also on your attitude, your self-awareness and your ability to genuinely connect with others.

You will learn how to:

  • use touch consciously and with sensitivity
  • recognize and navigate emotional processes
  • establish clear and professional relationships
  • accompany people in exploring closeness, intimacy and personal themes

Our training combines knowledge, hands-on experience and personal growth.

Our Cuddle Therapy Training takes time because this work cannot simply be understood intellectually – it needs to be experienced, integrated and embodied. Personal growth is an essential part of this process.

The training challenges you on several levels. You do not only learn new skills, but also explore topics such as self-care, boundaries and your own relationship with closeness and connection. These processes can be touching, challenging and thought-provoking. For what you learn to become truly integrated, it takes time, repetition and space for experience.

Your body awareness and intuition also develop gradually. You grow into this role not only professionally, but personally as well. Through practice, reflection and feedback, you build confidence in working with clients.

In the end, it is not just about having learned something. It is about being able to say: I know what I am doing. And I am able to hold space for others.

The Cuddle Therapy Training intentionally takes place in a group because it prepares you particularly well for professional practice. You work with different people and gain a wide range of experiences in direct contact.

By practicing with different partners, you learn to adapt to different bodies, needs and boundaries. This helps you develop confidence, flexibility and sensitivity for your future work.

Exchange within the group also plays an important role. Different perspectives, questions and experiences broaden your view and deepen your understanding.

At the same time, spending time together creates a special sense of connection within the group. Learning, laughing and sharing experiences together often make the training a deeply enriching and memorable experience.

Many participants stay in touch long after the training has ended, creating a network that can continue to support and inspire you on your path.

Even after completing the Cuddle Therapy Training, you will continue to have access to comprehensive materials and support to accompany you in your practice.

The central resource is our extensive English-language manual. It contains the knowledge covered throughout the training and serves as a practical reference guide for your work. You can revisit concepts at any time and find guidance on topics ranging from the science of touch and cuddle hormones to specific approaches to touch and common situations that may arise in sessions with clients.

Many graduates return to the manual regularly and describe it as an invaluable companion in their professional practice.

In addition, you receive lifetime access to our videos-on-demand. Most videos are currently recorded in German, but they include English subtitles, and we are gradually expanding our English-language materials and recording new videos in English.

We also continue to support you personally. The training includes three supervision sessions, where you can discuss your experiences and receive feedback. After the training, you are always welcome to book additional supervision sessions with Angeline and Rubem whenever you would like further guidance or support.
